We had a crazy busy, crazy Christmas Eve in the Turner house.
First off we were having a Christmas party with the whole Turner family that night. So Bonnie was cooking and cleaning like crazy. I was going to help her when I got home from work and finish wrapping a few last minute things.
I had to work 8-4:30. No biggie. Or so I thought.
At about 3:30 I got a call from Leisa. And a minute later I got a call from Ryanne. I knew something was up so I took a quick break to see what was going on. No answer on Leisa's phone, no answer on Ry's phone. I see that Leisa left me a voicemail, so I listen to it. She said that Cael dropped a bar stool on his big toe and she thinks he needs stitches. So I call her back. She tells me what happened and that it is still bleeding a lot and he won't let anyone touch it. Cael has had other little accidents like this and he won't let anyone touch his ouchie. But nothing else had been that bad. So I leave work about 45 minutes early and rush home. As soon as I walk in I can tell that this is much worst than anything else he has had. He is sweating like crazy and crying pretty bad. So I pick him up and sit him in my lap. I can tell that we will need to make the dreaded trip to Urgent Care. I asked Adam to go check online to make sure it is open on Christmas Eve. I tried calling them but no one answered. I know that he is going to need stitches with sedation without even seeing his toes yet. So off Leisa, Ryanne, Cael, and I go to Urgent Care.
Once we get to Urgent Care, we get in pretty quickly. I unwrap his toe to see it for the first time. Ouch!!! It is much worst than I thought it would be. His toe is purple from the toenail up. His toenail is still on but looks like it will be falling off shortly. The doctor takes a look at it. Not a very good one because Cael still doesn't want anyone to look or touch it. She agrees that it needs stitches and he will need to be sedated to do it. So off she sends us to Children's Hospital ER. At least they call ahead and tell us that we are coming down.
We get to Children's ER and they are calling us back before I've even walked away from the registration desk. Awesome. We won't be here all night. I talk to the nurse and he asked what happened, yada yada, yada. He moves us into a room and they start a movie for him. We wait to see the doctor. She says the same thing that he will need an x ray and sedation for stitches. He was able to get into x ray pretty quickly. So I thought that the process wasn't going to take forever. But than we wait and wait and wait. I think we got there at a little after 5:30 but he wasn't sedated until 9ish. He was thirsty and hungry, but he couldn't eat or drink anything for 4 hours before he was sedated. No problem with that since we were the ones waiting for them all night. It took them about 20 minutes to do the stitches. We were called back in when he was starting to wake up. He was in and out of it for about 20 minutes, so they gave him an iv to help flush his system. He was asleep at this point because it was like 10:30 or so. They finally start to get everything together for us, so that we can go home. Prescription and some dressings so that I can change his bandages while we are home. He also has to wear a little boot on his foot for a week. I almost laughed at that. Cael hates clothes and shoes. I can't hardly keep him dressed while we are out, let alone while he is at home. We finally get to leave the hospital at 11. So I stop by a 24 hour pharmacy and pick up his antibiotics on our way home.
When we get home he opens a few presents and we put on his Christmas jammies, well the top at least. We were all exhausted so we finished putting out presents under the tree and went to bed.
All in all Cael fractured the very tip of his toe, got 9 stitches, and will probably never regrow his toenail.
Here is a picture of Christmas morning. You can see Cael in his boot. Did I mention that Cael went to the ER in his underwear and a t shirt only?!?
